The aim of a Backgammon game is to move your pieces around the Backgammon board and get those pieces from the game board faster than your competitor who works just as hard to achieve the same buthowever they move in the opposing direction. Winning a round in Backgammon requires both strategy and luck. How far you will be able to shift your checkers is up to the numbers from rolling a pair of dice, and just how you shift your checkers are determined by your overall playing strategies. Enthusiasts use differing techniques in the differing parts of a game depending on your positions and opponent’s.

The Running Game Plan

The goal of the Running Game strategy is to lure all your checkers into your home board and get them off as fast as you could. This strategy focuses on the pace of advancing your pieces with little or no efforts to hit or barricade your competitor’s checkers. The ideal time to employ this tactic is when you think you might be able to move your own pieces a lot faster than your opposition does: when 1) you have a fewer chips on the game board; 2) all your chips have past your competitor’s chips; or 3) the opponent doesn’t use the hitting or blocking technique.

The Blocking Game Technique

The main aim of the blocking tactic, by the name, is to block your competitor’s checkers, temporarily, not worrying about shifting your pieces quickly. As soon as you have created the barrier for your competitor’s movement with a few chips, you can move your other checkers quickly from the game board. The player really should also have an apparent strategy when to withdraw and shift the pieces that you used for the blockade. The game becomes interesting when the opponent utilizes the same blocking technique.
