The aim of a Backgammon match is to move your chips around the game board and pull them off the game board faster than your challenger who works harder to do the same buthowever they move in the opposite direction. Succeeding in a round in Backgammon requires both tactics and luck. How far you can shift your checkers is up to the numbers from rolling the dice, and how you shift your chips are determined by your overall gambling techniques. Players use different strategies in the differing stages of a game based on your positions and opponent’s.

The Running Game Strategy

The goal of the Running Game plan is to bring all your checkers into your home board and get them off as quick as you can. This strategy focuses on the pace of moving your chips with no efforts to hit or block your competitor’s checkers. The ideal scenario to use this strategy is when you think you can move your own chips quicker than the opposition does: when 1) you have a fewer chips on the game board; 2) all your chips have moved beyond your competitor’s checkers; or 3) the opponent doesn’t use the hitting or blocking plan.

The Blocking Game Tactic

The primary goal of the blocking strategy, by its name, is to stop your competitor’s checkers, temporarily, while not worrying about shifting your pieces quickly. Once you have created the blockage for the opponent’s movement with a few chips, you can move your other checkers quickly off the game board. You should also have a clear plan when to withdraw and move the checkers that you used for blocking. The game gets interesting when your competitor utilizes the same blocking technique.
